Excerpts from the booklet

Organ preludes, fugues and chorale arrangements are considered typical of baroque music; they are prominent in the works of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 – 1750). More than hundred years after Bach, in the wake of radical shift in music attitudes, the attention of composers had long since been drawn to other forms, and organ music had been relegated to a peripheral sphere. Yet we cannot overlook the fact that at the same time there was a marked increase of interest in older music, particularly in the music of Bach. One of the results of this rediscovery was the seven – volume edition of Bach’s organ works, which the Peters music – publishing house in Leipzig produced in the years 1844 to 1847… (Prof. Dr. Walter Werbeck)
